HTML, not script: https://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts/show/9284

Beat me to it.
Seems like that would be easy to kick out, it's obviously not a script.

I just noticed something, I wonder if search engines are hitting the scripts? (that script has been installed three times) and I don't see anything telling them not to, perhaps it should not be allowed. And the type attribute should be used in links to scripts.

Henrik N Admin

Thanks. Removed the scripts reported by znerp and LouCypher.

Descriptor: Could be. I think there's a ticket about disallowing search robots. It's planned.

i'm starting to doubt if this site is administrated at all.... -_-

It is, but both Jesse and I have been very busy lately. Sorry about that. The site code itself is open, so anyone is free to help out fixing bugs and adding features. If someone wants to help moderate the site (removing spam users and such), ask Jesse.

Thanks. Removed scripts and user.

We might get less of those scripts containing just an URL when the site starts validating scripts for a metadata header. The code is in trunk but not live on the site yet.

excuse me, but do you have some kind of filter on the user profile form? I'm getting frustrated by that monkey :(
I only wanted to put in one place a line telling everyone else that my scripts (the one I conceived) are released as GPL or CC, but i seem unable to put it in my own profile.
And every time I try I get more frustrated it's getting harder to keep calm when I try to rewrite again my profile.

this script: https://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts/show/9376 seems to be an almost direct copy of this script: https://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts/show/8388. Just a few of the customisable colours, fonts, positions etc. have been changed.

znerp Scriptwright

Same user as my above post just added the same script again (link: https://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts/show/9382). I've done a diff on them, and they're exactly the same.

I have an ethical question:
if I grab a (often clearly not longer maintained) script and modify it till I'm satisfied(*), am I similar to those "script copiers"?
I always take care to specify where are the "father scripts" and to give credit where it's due.

(*) ...meaning "finally it works and in the way I wanted it to work!" :)

Lior Zur Scriptwright

tcd: I think it depends on the script's license. Other than that, in my opinion, it's ethical to always give proper credit for people's work. Even more courteous would be to ask for their permission explicitly, but then again, the license may already denote their wishes in this regard.

Henrik N Admin

tcd: Though I suppose "default" copyright rules (e.g. no redistributing derivative works without permission) formally apply if no other license is mentioned, I'd say redistributing derived/fixed scripts is fine in practice as long as

  1. you give due credit and
  2. you remove your script if the original author asks you to.

tcd Scriptwright

Thanks Lior & Henrik :) your suggestions are most welcome :)
Now another thing: when will you implement the "report comments" thing you discussed earlier? I found this user "Scriptorum" that has had obvious problems in submitting its comments, up to the point it almost looks like spamming... (20 comments on neopets-related scripts, almost all of 'em double-submitted... *sigh*)

Henrik N Admin

I can't really give estimates on when stuff will be fixed/added. It mostly depends on Jesse at this point: I have submitted a number of updates that have not gone live yet, because Jesse has other stuff he needs to fix first.

tcd Scriptwright

Ah ok, no problem. I can live with that. I dunno about "Scriptorum", though :D
