The forums are filling up with spam, malware scripts are being uploaded all over the place, various features on the site stopped working long ago, people are coding up a replacement site…

Where is the admin? [He’s not dead (as of Nov 20)](https://twitter.com/anotherjesse). Busy? Uninterested? Legally refrained from getting involved? Planning a big surprise for us all? I sent him an e-mail over a month ago and got no reply.

As the admin of userstyles.org, I find it sad that this site has been left to rot. It was the inspiration for my site and is a valuable resource on the Internet. There seem to be quite a few people who would be willing to help out in various ways (myself included), but we simply don’t have the “keys” to be able to do so.

Oh, hi. You're the one that helped me resolve a [naming conflict](http://forum.userstyles.org/discussion/37288/name-is-already-used-by-another-style#Item_6) on Userstyles.org a while back.

I'm not quite sure of the current state of affairs and why there are no updates. It would be great if this site got some updates, new features, style modifications, etc.

Besides the obvious install counter issue what else isn't working for you?

Any reason why you aren't using your primary account and using this one instead that was just created yesterday? :)

Better now? I just had to guess what e-mail and password combo I used 7 years ago...

As to what's broken from a technical standpoint, I ran into 4-5 error pages when signing up my new account and posting the comment above. I'm sure I'd run into more if I used the site more extensively.

Really though, I'd put "things are broken" a distant third behind "there's malware everywhere" and "there's spam everywhere" in my list of problems...

hehe. Been in your shoes before. :)

This is usually attributed to high traffic volume but I do know vaguely that the site is being modified and that could be some of it. Towards the end of the year (not too far from now) I'll see if I can post all the changes that I've noticed albeit probably not the ones people are expecting. I also usually have time to post usoCheckup stats here... although I'm late this month because of other duties.

I understand and [this CNN story](http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/tech/2013/12/05/lead-intv-henry-over-2-million-passwords-stolen.cnn.html) doesn't help things either. :\

Since this is currently a community driven site (peer review) it is recommended to participate by using the native "spam button" or "is this spam" links, issues tabs, script discussions and finally reviews. If spam reporting is unavailable most other pages can report spam additionally using this script. It also handles reporting "empty topics". You can also just manually type it in at this topic. I watch that topic for reports too.

For his definition of malware you could try using equazcions script, even though it's a bit out of date, has some false positives, and a bug or more. There is also uso - installWith for Mozilla users but I see that you are using Chrome/Chromium to post replies so it probably won't work for you as a notification advisory... but you may not have anything to worry about next month from this topic story. I may have some false positives on occasion for potential ad scripts but it is just an advisory and I never prevent anyone from making their own informed choice to install... however my team does reserve the right to restrict hitching an optional updater/meta wrap along side a script which you will see with equazcions modified data list match patterns on the front-end of usoCheckup.

For the 5xx cloud issues I recommend sending an email to [email protected] and play the waiting game... also retrying is a good option. There are several scripts out there that autorefresh. Again my script is tailored to Moz products so that won't be much help to you I think. I'm not sure if JoeSimmons script works in Chrome or not. Perhaps he'll drop in a link/confirmation to his later.

Anyhow I hope this info can help some. :)

Pretty much all of my scripts uploaded/updated within the past 6 or so months are compatible with Chrome; maybe one or two aren't but I'm not sure (does TM support GM_xhr?).

This is my script: Userscripts.org - Reload on 502 Bad Gateway
Should work for Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and maybe more but it's only tested on those.

Current known [documentation for TM](http://tampermonkey.net/documentation.php)

Ok, yes then. So every script under 6 months old is 100% Chrome compatible. A lot of the older ones are, as well, but not 100%.

I appreciate the suggestions.

I posted this not so much for a "how do I, personally, deal with these issues" discussion, but more of a "why do I, personally, need to deal with these issues". Users should not have to deal with these problems, and I'm trying to see if there's some way we can come to a solution that fixes it for everybody. It's not reasonable to ask users to install some script to avoid the malware posted on the site. I'm frankly a little surprised that Google hasn't clamped down on this site for the malware.

Not everyone uses goo for a search engine and besides they are most definitely not the authority out there for everything (and goo has been incorrect in the past too with their censorship). Most goo sites are blocked in my managed networks anyhow... this is another really long topic which I don't care to get too much into today. Totalitarian vs Community driven... which would you choose? :)

I read something about Userscripts.org , posted 1377 days ago, here:
Ask HN: passing the torch on userscripts-mirror.org (Hacker News).

Resume:
"I'm unable to find the time/energy to give to Userscripts.org lately. My startup is currently focused on building Nebula & Nova, and I cannot see finding time to devote to the site I spent 5 years building/running.
The site has been in "maintenance mode" since starting Nebula, but it deserves more.
The site is still very active (Google Analytics for last month): * 2,474,330 Visits * 9,532,743 Pageviews
The site is quantified: Http://www.quantcast.com/userscripts-mirror.org
But it needs someone who can do the right thing for the community.
There will be technical issues scaling (rails 2.3, postgres, git). Legal issues (dealing with DMCA takedown notices/people who don't like scripts that "fix" their site). Community issues (the site lacks a nice directory and community aspects).
Companies or individuals are welcome but I need to know your intentions with the site going forward :)"

For info about [about NASA Nebula](http://www.nasa.gov/open/plan/nebula.html) :
"Nebula is an open-source cloud computing platform that was developed to provide an easily quantifiable and improved alternative to building additional expensive data centers and to provide an easier way for NASA scientists and researchers to share large, complex data sets with external partners and the public."

@decembre,
While it may be new to you and him that intel is extremely ancient and definitely not found by him.
